William J.B. McDonald Jr, 91, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 3rd, 2026.

Born in Millerstown, PA, on March 2nd, 1935, Bill is the son of the late William J.B. McDonald Sr and Martha (Dressler) McDonald.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 71.5 years, Peggy (Taylor) McDonald. Bill is also survived by his daughter, Sheri Downey (Dennis), daughter in law, Jill McDonald, son in law, Stace Sprecher, grandchildren, Jennifer Paynter (Ed), Kyle Sprecher (Kimberly), Ryan McDonald (Justine), Crystal Downey, great grandchildren, Quin Paynter (Akilah), Peiper Paynter, Mason Sprecher, Lylah Sprecher, Isabella Rauch, Lilyana Cunningham, Waylon McDonald, a great great grandchild, Ozzy Paynter, and many nieces and nephews.

Bill is preceded in death by his daughter, Trudy Sprecher, son, Bryan McDonald, brothers, Samuel, Dayton , Max , and sisters, Arlene Keevill and Josephine Strawser.

Bill graduated from Greenwood Joint High School in the class of 1951. He then went on to serve in the United States Army. He went on to work for the Asplundh Tree Co., later going to USPS as a mail carrier in Carlisle for 30 years before retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Allen L. Stewart Union Branch 500 Harrisburg. He was also a member of the Carlisle Eagles Club. 

Bill's main love was his family. He valued spending time with his family more than anything. He enjoyed taking his beloved Yorkshire Terrier, Sophie, on walks around the community. He was a huge fan of Penn State's athletics. He was also a man of great faith.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at Residential Hospice for their heartfelt care of Bill in his final days.

A viewing will be held on Monday, July 13th, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W Trindle Rd, Carlisle, PA 17013. Burial will take place with military honors immediately following the service at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, 1921 Ritner Hwy, Carlisle, PA 17013.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bill's honor to Residential Hospice, 100 Sterling Pkwy #110, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, or the American Heart Association, 4250 Crums Mill Rd, Harrisburg, PA 17112.
