William H. Crain, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-great grandfather, and lifelong farmer, passed away peacefully February 26, 2026.
Born October 15, 1939, William lived a life rooted in hard work, faith, and love for his family and the land.
For 63 wonderful years, he was married to the love of his life, Betty. Together they built a strong and enduring marriage, centered on family, commitment and shared values. William was a proud and dedicated father to his three sons, Gary (Heather), Curt (Denise) and Todd (Lisa) who carry forward his work ethic and steady spirit. He is additionally survived by his brother, Ross Crain; grandchildren, Sarah Thomas (Billy), Katherine Bailey (Richard) and Nick Crain (Kiara); step-grandchildren, Eric Beecher (Alicia) and Justin Beecher (Abby) and two great-grandchildren.
Bill spent many years farming, a calling he embraced wholeheartedly. From milking cows in the early mornings to planting crops in the fields, he understood the meaning of dedication and perseverance. Farming was more than an occupation to him- it was a way of life. He took great pride in his equipment, especially his beloved John Deere tractors, which he admired and trusted throughout the years.
He enjoyed attending plowing contests across Pennsylvania and in neighboring states, where he appreciated the craftsmanship, tradition, and fellowship among fellow farmers. Outside of farming, he was an avid NASCAR fan. He especially admired Richard Petty and rarely missed the chance to watch a race, cheering on his favorite driver with enthusiasm.
Bill will be remembered for his strong hands, kind heart, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the fields he tended, the family he cherished, and the values he instilled in those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday March 3, 2026, at 1pm at Hoffman Funeral and Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Rd. Carlisle, PA 17013, with a viewing from 11am until the time of the service. Burial will follow immediately to Westminster Cemetery.
