Sylvester Z. Baum, 97, of Newville, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday, February 22, 2024 at the Church of God Home, Carlisle, PA.
He was born June 23, 1926 in Carlisle, son of the late Zoura M. Baum and Ella Ruth Kreider Baum.
After a tenth grade education, Sylvester left school during the perilous times of WWII to work the family farm and help provide for the household.
Many years later his love for agriculture inspired his purchase of a farm near Bloserville where he humbly perfected his calling. Elite livestock owners came from regions beyond Pennsylvania to purchase his beautiful hay. And, as many local farmers of the day, he would supplement his income as a beloved bus driver for Big Spring School District, spanning nearly 30 years.
July 4, 1948, after accepting the Lord, Sylvester joined McClure’s Gap Church of God, which he faithfully loved and served in multiple positions, until recently incapable of attending.
Surviving are his daughter, Linda J Morris (husband, Steven) of Landisburg, sons Ronald S. Baum (wife, Linda K.) of Mifflinburg, and Kenneth E. Baum Sr. (wife, Teresa) of Lorida, Florida; One brother, Marlin Baum of Mechanicsburg, two sisters, Anna Baum Thumma of Carlisle and Beulah Baum Lippert of Carlisle; seven grandchildren, Michael S. Morris, Melissa Morris Dantas, Amanda L Shank, Katherine L. Baum, Eric A. Baum, Kenneth E. Baum Jr., Tyler L. Baum, and step granddaughter Kimberly M.
