Shirley L. Mellinger

Shirley L. Mellinger, age 90 of Newville, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Born on April 13, 1934, in Carlisle, PA to the late Harry and the late Beatrice (Shearer) Galbraith.

Shirley loved spending time with her family, enjoyed camping and traveling to Florida. She loved to go square and round dancing with her husband George and taking day trips to Rehoboth Beach for Grotto’s Pizza. In her early years, she loved driving her 1929 Model A Ford. Shirley was an excellent driver as evidenced by no side view mirrors (or children) being harmed while driving large school buses through Newville for many years.

Shirley was survived by her loving husband George Mellinger and their children: Ric (wife Judy Gile) Mellinger of Fayetteville, PA, Randy (wife Jan) Mellinger of Montana, Deb (husband Kevin) Heckendorn of North Augusta, SC, and Rob (wife Stephanie) Mellinger of Newville, PA. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and brother Gary Galbraith of Carlisle, PA.  She was preceded in death by two brothers Robert and Ronald Galbraith.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM on June 7, 2024, at the Huntsdale Church of the Brethren 170 Church Road Carlisle, PA 17015. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
