Sandra Marie “Sandy” Dougherty passed away on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, surrounded by her four children.
Originally from Rhode Island, Sandy was a resident of Carlisle, PA for the past nine years, previously living in Williamsport, PA, where she raised her family and spent the majority of her adult life.
She was a devoted member of the Community Theatre League of Williamsport, serving for many years on its Board of Directors. She loved theatre, photography, literature, writing, and tending to her beautiful garden.
Sandy was known professionally as “Sandra Marie” during her career as a radio DJ at WLYC and WILQ, and later as the local news director for Clear Channel Radio in Williamsport. Later in life, she pursued her dream of becoming a Physician Assistant, earning her Master’s Degree from Lock Haven University. She worked as a Physician Assistant from 2017 until the time of her passing.
She is preceded in death by her father, Francis Dougherty, and her sister, Bethany Dougherty.
She is survived by her mother, Catherine Dougherty of Cumberland, RI; her four children: Jamie Hamod of Gainesville, VA; Brandy Headlee and her husband David of Elizabethtown, PA; Andrew Dougherty-Hamod of Elizabethtown, PA; and Aaryn Mazzio and her husband CJ of Harleysville, PA. She is also survived by her brothers: Frank Dougherty and his wife Lori of Smithfield, RI; Peter Dougherty and his wife Joan of Tennessee; and Paul Dougherty and his wife Linda of Boston, MA; as well as her sisters: Cate Dougherty of Cumberland, RI, and Mary Dougherty and her husband Edward Caouette of Chepachet, RI. She was the proud grandmother of five grandsons and one granddaughter, and was affectionately known as “Auntie Sandy” to her dozens of nieces and nephews.
Pennsylvania services will be held on Friday, September 4, 2026 with visitation from 5:00–6:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Rhode Island.
