Russell L. Shughart

Russell L. Shughart, 71, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2026 at his “happy” place, his cabin in Clearfield, with his loving wife of 53 years, Betty J. Metzger Shughart, by his side.

Russ was born July 15, 1955, in Carlisle, to the late Lester Eugene and Mary (Barninger) Shughart.

Russ loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter. He enjoyed camping with his family, traveling with his wife, and taking hunting trips. He was a devoted family man who cherished his wife, daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He also took great pride in owning and operating, Russell L. Shughart Excavating. Russ was self-employed since 1975, owning several businesses. Which included Driftwood Builders that he was in partnership with his brother-in-law, Jim Miller. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed the many people he met throughout the years.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; his two daughters, Rusty Shughart Robb and Amanda Shughart, son-in-law Michael Jones; his grandchildren, Hunter (Emily) Robb, Tristan (Madison) Robb, MacKenzie, Morgan, and Madison Jones; and his great-grandchildren, Colter, Bodie, and Benson Robb.

He is also survived by his brother, Charles Shughart, his sister, Linda (Jim) Miller and his Bonus Mom Jane Rhoads-Shughart. Many nieces and nephews.

Russ was preceded in death by his brother, Rodger Shughart, and his sister-in-law, Victoria Shughart.

Russ was a member of the Middlesex Sportsmen Club, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Keystone Elk Country Alliance and the National Wild Turkey Federation. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for 50 years.

At Russ’s request, there will be no public funeral service. Services will be private and held at the family’s convenience.

He will be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his enjoyment of hunting, his hard work, and most of all, his love for his friends and devotion to his family.
