Bob was born in Longbranch, New Jersey, on September 25, 1942. He grew up in Maryland and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1960.
He worked from 1960 to 1968 in the print shop at Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C. In 1968 he left FTC to work in the local printers’ union at Merkle Press. He worked at various union print shops in the Washington area over the years including Judd & Detweiler, McCalls, Editors Press. After retiring from printing in 2000, Bob worked part-time at Antietam Auto and Fitzgerald Auto in Frederick, Maryland.
Bob served in the U.S. Army Reserves from 1964 to 1970 when he was honorably discharged.
He had a life-long love of trains, especially steam locomotives, and had an extensive collection of model trains. Bob also enjoyed his stamp collection over many years.
In 1967, Bob married Mary Patricia Higgins. They lived in Lanham, Maryland, until 1976 when they moved to Ijamsville, Maryland, and raised two children, Colleen and Tom. In 2016 they bought a new home in Traditions of America 55+ community in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania.
Bob was preceded in death by his daughter, Colleen Marie Kilner; his father, Phillip Nelson Lowstuter; his mother, Josephine Everly Lowstuter; and his sister, Phyllis Higgins.
Bob is survived by his wife Mary Patricia (Pat) Lowstuter; his son Thomas Robert Lowstuter of Starksboro, Vermont; his granddaughters (Colleen’s girls) Karen Marie Moss (husband Ryan Moss) of Frederick, Maryland, and Laura Anne Kilner (partner John Lage) of Fulton, Maryland.
Funeral services will be at Trindle Spring Lutheran Church, 14 State Road, Mechanicsburg, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, with visitation at 10 a.m. and funeral service at 11 a.m.
