Richard G. "Rick" Wakefield

February 7, 1942 — January 17, 2022

Richard Wakefield of Huntingdon, PA – and a resident of Green Ridge Village in Newville, PA – died on January 17, 2022, from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.
He was the son of Chester Wright Wakefield and Esther Pauline (Whittaker) Wakefield.
Richard graduated from Huntingdon Area High School, attended the US Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, and then served in the Navy for four years as a surface warfare officer. He went on to earn an MBA from the University of Connecticut, and work as a Finance Executive in the newspaper industry for over 25 years, ultimately serving as the Chief Financial Officer of Newspapers of New England. Later, he founded Glennco Consulting Group where he finished his career. On the side, he served as an adjunct professor at the University of South Carolina where he taught Corporate Finance.
Beyond his professional life, Rick was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed chess, fly fishing, gardening, and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He also sang in the Glee Club in both high school and college and in choirs and choral groups throughout his life. His love of music led to various community theatre performances, including in Concord, NH and in Bluffton, SC where he performed one of his favorite roles in Jekyll and Hyde. As an athlete, he played football and ran track in high school, and was an avid volleyball player, winning a gold medal as part of a state championship team two years in a row at the Senior Games in Florence, SC. As a committed Christian, he considered one of his greatest contributions the work he did for a legacy fund titled “Goin’ Home,” developing a comprehensive curriculum for an end-of-life workshop at his church.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Linda (Damon) Wakefield, and his three sons and their wives, Andy and Lynette Wakefield of Coopersburg, PA, Alex and Kathy Wakefield of Doylestown, PA, and Jon and Mary Ann Wakefield of Cary, NC, and brother Stanley Wakefield of Mechanicsburg, PA. He is survived by 12 grandchildren – three girls and nine boys – spanning ages four to 29.
