Richard Walter Cassidy Sr., age 89, of Cape May, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at 6:20 p.m. on August 15, 2025, in his home in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on December 16, 1935, in Boothywyn, Pennsylvania, to James and Margaret Cassidy, Richard lived a full life devoted to his family, country, and community. He proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserve, embodying a deep sense of duty and patriotism that guided him throughout his life.
Richard “Spider” Cassidy graduated from Chichester High School, then furthered his education by studying engineering at Widener University. His professional career, for many years, was working as a Regional Service Manager for The Fisher Scientific Company.
Beyond his professional and military service, Richard was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He married the love of his life in 1961, Marrie Hall Cassidy. They enjoyed 64 years together, living in Chadds Ford, PA. and then Cape May, New Jersey. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—hunting, fishing, and camping with his family, instilling a deep appreciation for nature and tradition in those closest to him.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marrie Cassidy; his children: Janice and her husband Joe Drescher, Joanne Kutulakis, and Richard Cassidy Jr., and his wife Jennifer, and his cherished grandchildren: Dylan Drescher, Trevor Drescher, Alex Kutulakis, Maggie Cassidy, Quinn Cassidy, Noah Cassidy, and Sarah Cassidy. Preceded in death by Joanne’s husband Jason Kutulakis. His legacy of love, strength, humor, honesty, selflessness, and quiet wisdom lives on in each of them.
