Rev. Howard A. Kerstetter

The Rev. Howard A. Kerstetter, of Carlisle, died on December 4, 2023 at UPMC Carlisle at the age of 92. He was born in State College, PA on August 6, 1931, and was the son of the late Guy T. and D. Marie Kerstetter.

Howard was a graduate of State College High School, and Penn State University, and he received his Master of Divinity degree from Wesley Theological Seminary, Washington, D.C.

He was married to Evelyn Walker of Bellefonte, PA in 1953, and they had two sons, Michael and Daniel.

He was ordained in 1957, in the Evangelical United Brethren Church (which became The United Methodist Church through mergers), and served the following churches: Runville Charge, in Bellefonte, R.D., PA; Emmanuel Church, Dorsey, MD; Trinity Church in Baltimore, MD; Grace Church in Lemoyne, PA; First Church of Carlisle, PA; and Mt. Rock Church, Newville, PA.

Howard is survived by his son, Daniel, of Middletown, PA; a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Kerstetter, of Lock Haven, PA; granddaughters: Miranda Hall, Mechanicsburg, Christian Kerstetter, Annville, PA, and Amie Biermaas and husband Timothy, Brookhaven, PA; and by four great granddaughters and two great grandsons, and by numerous cousins, and by his long-time supportive and devoted best friend, Marilyn Engle, of Mechanicsburg. He was preceded in death by his wife (2003), his son, Michael (2021), his sister Janet, his older brother Donald, and his younger brother, Ernest.

A brief Memorial Service will be held at The Carlisle United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 16, 2023 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Mira Hewlett officiating. There will be a visitation from 10:30 AM until the time of the service. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
