Peter Yale Bolger passed away peacefully at home with his family on Saturday, May 31st at the age of 78.
Peter was born on February 1st, 1947, at Germantown Hospital in Philadelphia to Daniel Bolger and Mary Francis Yale Bolger. His birth was followed by that of his younger brother James and younger sister Laura. Peter graduated from Penncrest High School in Media, PA followed by earning a B.S in Metallurgical Engineering from Lehigh University. Post college he was drafted into the Army and spent a year serving in Vietnam with the 18th MP Brigade HQ in 1971. When his service was complete, Peter moved to Harrisburg PA in 1973 and was employed by PennDOT. Leaving PennDOT in 1978 Peter joined the company Pyrotek as an International Technical Sales manager where he stayed for the remainder of his working years. During his time with Pyrotek Peter travelled the world, working in countries and regions as diverse as Russia, Ghana, Scandinavia and eastern Europe.
Peter married Stephanie Ann Line in Carlisle, PA in 1981. Their marriage was followed by the birth of two sons, Michael and Scott. During the years the boys were growing up the family travelled together extensively, visiting London, Bermuda, Hawaii, Jamacia (to name a few) and yearly visits to Cape May on the Jersey shore. These trips inspired a love of visiting and engaging with different cultures in the hearts of his family that exists to this day. Peter and Steph continued to chase their love of travel through their retirement years, regularly setting sail to exotic locales with good friends or in their own company and taking yearly trips to the lake or beach with “The Big 6”.
Peter was an avid reader of science fiction, a lover of classic rock and a diehard Philadelphia sports fan, passing down his love of all three to his sons. In true Philly fan fashion, Peter never held back his opinion of the teams and players he was watching, especially during the losing seasons. However, he recently had the immense enjoyment of watching the Eagles win their second Super Bowl in 2024 with his family by his side.
Peter hid his caring and generous character behind a sarcastic and at times brash sense of humor. He would throw mock fits over the price of everyday purchases and then turn around and fully fund a luxury cruise for his two sons and their wives. No matter the situation or audience Peter never hesitated to voice the truth as he saw it, with a sardonic twist interjecting his view at the most opportune (or inopportune) time. Peter’s grandson Kian summed it up best when he said, “I miss his funny jokes”.
Peter is survived by his wife Stephanie Bolger, his son Scott Bolger (wife “young” Stephanie Bolger), his sister Laura Bolger and his three grandchildren Sloan, Quinn and Kian Bolger.
Peter is preceded in death by his son Michael Bolger and his brother James Bolger.
A celebration of life will be held at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Rd, Carlisle, PA 17013 on Saturday, June 21st, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations in Peter’s name be made to Breakthrough T1D to honor his son Michael and granddaughter Quinn who were diagnosed with childhood type 1 diabetes or to Residential Hospice of Mechanicsburg.
