Melvin L. Fry

August 25, 1938 — April 30, 2024

Carlisle

Melvin Fry, of Carlisle passed away Tuesday, April 30 in his home at the age of 85 while surrounded by his loving family. Born in Carlisle, he was the son of the late Irene Fry.

He was the loving husband of Margaret J. (Lohman) Fry, with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Melvin worked for many years as a supervisor for the former Reeves Hoffman, Inc., a crystal manufacturing company in Carlisle until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting deer and small game. He was also an avid sports fan, particularly enjoying golf. Melvin valued family, and over the years he camped throughout the United States and Canada.

He was also dedicated to his community, as shown by a years-long membership of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #1299, in Carlisle where he progressed from the local and regional levels of leadership to ultimately be the first and only national Grand Worthy President of Eagles Clubs hailing from Carlisle. During his active involvement with the Eagles, he served as an instrumental fundraiser facilitating the building of a cancer center in Ohio.

Surviving with Melvin’s loving wife Margaret are four daughters, Lynnette Sipe (husband Terry) with whom he lived; Cathy Fry, of Duncannon; Barbara Mixell (husband Dick), of Carlisle; and Lisa Adams (husband Barry), of Carlisle. Sisters Alverta Gibson (late husband Jack), of Carlisle, and Janet Marzullo (late husband Vince), of Chambersburg also survive him. Melvin was the proud grandfather of 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by his brother Richard Fry.
