It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Melissa Kay Wiford, who left this world on June 2, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on October 26, 1964, in Sidney, Ohio, Melissa's journey through life was marked by a fierce dedication to knowledge and an unwavering spirit of service.

Melissa was a proud veteran who devoted six years as a Finance Specialist in the United States Army before finding her true calling as an archivist. For over 21 years, she worked at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, where her passion for history, genealogy, and storytelling flourished. She held three degrees from prestigious institutions, including The Ohio State University, where her love for the Buckeyes blossomed into a lifelong devotion.

A sister, daughter, and friend, Melissa cherished her family deeply. She is survived by her loving father, Lloyd Wiford; her sisters, Sherry Carter and Belinda Smith; and her brother, John Wiford. Together, they shared many adventures, and Melissa’s passing leaves an indelible void in their lives. Her passion for world travel opened her heart to diverse cultures and histories, which she eagerly shared with her family and friends.

Melissa was known for her infectious enthusiasm for U.S. women's soccer, her keen interest in genealogy, and her desire to connect the past with the present. She will be remembered not only for her accomplishments but also for her warm spirit and generous heart, which touched everyone who knew her.

Melissa was preceded in death by her mother, Nancy Wiford; brother, Rodney Wiford and a nephew. She also leaves to cherish her memory her loving dog, Kala; special friends, Tammy Knoop, Molly Bombane, Jane Smith-Stewart; 8 nieces and nephews, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.
