Mary Smith

Mary Alice Smith, 89, of Mechanicsburg, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, at Penn State Holy Spirit Hospital. Born on September 8, 1935, in Kane, PA, she was the cherished daughter of Arch and Alice Hermann. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Dr. Richard K. (Dick) Smith.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her three sons and their spouses: Dr. Richard Smith (Sharon) of Lewisburg, PA; Randall Smith (Nancy) of Lincoln University, PA; and Rodney Smith (Ginny) of Boiling Springs, PA. At the time of her passing, she was the proud grandmother of seven: Jessica Greenlee, Alexander Smith, Nikki Smith, Alicia Lambert, Kirsten Smith, Jennifer Smith, and Amanda Smith. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by her family and friends.

After completing high school in 1953, Mrs. Smith earned her degrees in nutrition and dental hygiene from Temple University in 1957. She met her husband during her time at Temple and later relocated with him to Williamsport, PA, where together they contributed significantly to the family dental practice.

Mary enjoyed a wide range of activities with her family, including golf, hunting, and gardening. She had a particular enthusiasm for shopping, traveling and consistently found joy in visits to the beach. In her later years, she formed many friendships within the local dining community in the Mechanicsburg and Carlisle areas.

A private family service will be held in her memory. In honor of her passion for animal welfare, the family requests that donations be made to Speranza Animal Rescue or Furry Friends Network.
