Mary “Dimples” was born in New Haven, Ct in 1938 to Ellen Grace and Dennis Powers. She graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School in New Haven and Meriden Hospital Nursing School, in Meriden, Ct. After living in the Boston area she settled in Westbrook, Ct. to raise her children, once finding a home close to the beach and being the first woman from the local bank to receive a mortgage. Mary loved to travel and keeping in touch with her dearest friends from her youth and nursing school to very close cousins and until recently would attend the New Haven Hill neighborhood reunions. She was a very sociable person, and no one was disparaged by the genuine interest and concern she had in them. Having been born to Irish immigrants she inherited her mother’s black curly hair and was so proud of her heritage that she would often visit the country and made the best Irish Bread. Her foremost delight were her children and the joy she had in the many camping trips that were taken, especially the infamous one to Washington, D.C. which we still remanence about. She passed her autonomy qualities onto her children and took pride in their endeavors including all having pursued a higher education. Throughout her life she followed her interests in photography, history, seeking out local coffee shops, and was never one to permit the burdens of the world to beset her enjoyment.
She is survived by her children, Sean (Renee), Margaret (Marc), Darrin, Steven (Sherri), Elizabeth (Guy). Her grandchildren, Connor, Kaitlyn, Emma. Her brother Dennis (Etta) and two nephews (Dennis and Brendon).
