Mary E. Burger

Mary E. Burger, of Carlisle, passed away at Celebration Villa of Shippensburg on Tuesday, November 21 while surrounded by her loving family at the age of 98. She was the wife of the late Frank Burger. Born May 23, 1925 in Newville, she was the daughter of the late Orville E. and Mary Negly Peiper.



Mary graduated in 1941 from Carlisle High School, having been active in the music department and as an accompanyist for many young soloists in the area. She was an organist at the First Church of the Brethren for many years before transferring to Middlesex United Methodist Church where she directed youth and chancel choirs until retiring. She also helped establish and direct the Bell Choir. Recently, she was a member of Mount Rock United Methodist Church, Newville.



Mary also worked as a bookkeeper for several employers in retail over the years, and she loved music, enjoyed crafts and animals, and enjoyed oil painting and sewing. Above all else, she was completely devoted to her family; love of family was her utmost priority.



Mary is survived by a daughter Susan Lebo (Ronald), of Carlisle; and grandchildren Jesse Shatto, of Carlisle, and Joshua Lebo (Mikayla), of Selinsgrove. Nephew Mark Peiper, of New Cumberland; and several great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews also survive her.



In addition to her husband and parents, Mary was predeceased by brothers Martin Peiper (Reba), of Carlisle, and John Peiper (Theda), of New Cumberland. She was also predeceased by a niece Barbara Lebo (Joe), and a nephew, Dr. Christopher Peiper (Trisha), and twin great-grandbabies Jaxon and Jase Shatto.



Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 29 at Mount Rock United Methodist Church, 598 Mount Rock Road, Newville with the Rev. Resa Schrack officiating. A visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mary's name to Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter, 5051 Letterkenny Road West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.


Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle.
