Lisa Kathleen Shamro, 64, of Harrisburg, PA — formerly of Mount Holly Springs and Carlisle — passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, with one of her closest friends by her side.
Born on a Wednesday, April 12, 1961, at the old Carlisle Hospital on Parker Street, Lisa was the treasured daughter of Betty Carole Shamro (Johns) and Joseph Albert Shamro, and the devoted sister of her beloved brother, Joseph William Shamro.
Lisa grew up in Mount Holly Springs, where she attended W.G. Rice Elementary and graduated with the Boiling Springs High School Class of 1979. She was baptized at Mount Holly Methodist Church by Reverend Jones and later confirmed at Allison United Methodist Church on the Dickinson College campus by Reverend Fritchkey. After graduation, she continued her education at Harrisburg Area Community College and always sought ways to grow — personally and professionally.
Lisa was deeply patriotic, a value passed down to her from her family. As a child, her grandmother would take her to local cemeteries to place flags and teach her the importance of honoring those who served. That early lesson left a lasting impression — Lisa proudly flew American flags on her property throughout her life and held an unwavering respect for veterans and her country.
Throughout her working years, Lisa was committed and caring. She held roles at United Telephone Company, Cumberland County Nursing Home, and Carlisle Ribbon Mill. For over 25 years, she worked at the Greater YWCA in Harrisburg as a receptionist, Resident Supervisor, and rape crisis counselor — always giving herself to those in need. She went on to serve for an incredible 41 years at the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue, where she found her professional home.
Lisa’s heart was as generous as it was gentle. She quietly supported causes close to her soul: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Tunnel to Towers, ASPCA, and local animal shelters. She was also a proud member of the Christian Broadcasting Network (The 700 Club) and the Friends of Caledonia State Park.
Lisa’s life was one of deep compassion. She never married or had children of her own, but she poured her love into her family, friends, and especially her beloved cat, Harry Lee Shamro, who brought her endless comfort and joy.
Lisa adored animals and the outdoors. She loved visiting zoos, aquariums, and spending time in what she called “God’s Country” — exploring the southern and northern mountains of Pine Grove, Laurel Lake, and Caledonia State Park. She enjoyed swimming, hiking, scenic drives, and spending time in Atlantic City — where she loved staying in ocean-view rooms on the boardwalk, savoring good food, and enjoying the thrill of the casinos. She never went alone; she often invited friends to share those joyful moments with her.
One of her proudest contributions was the placement of three memorial benches in Caledonia State Park — dedicated to the memory of her parents, Joseph A. and Betty C. Shamro, and her beloved brother, Joseph W. Shamro. One bench sits by the stream her mother loved, another near the pool area, and the third in a place that held meaning for Lisa — a lasting tribute to the family she loved so dearly.
Faith was Lisa’s foundation. A longtime member of Allison Methodist Church (now CUMC), her faith guided her with humility, grace, and hope throughout her life.
Lisa’s absence leaves a profound emptiness, but her legacy — of kindness, strength, service, and unshakable love — lives on in every heart she touched.
She is survived by her loving aunt, Nancy Clyde of Incline Village, Nevada; cousin Hillary, her husband Mark T., and their daughter Anika; cousin Marshall Clyde, his wife Beth, and their sons Charlie, William, and George — all of Nevada. She also leaves behind her dear cat, Harry Lee Shamro, and a circle of extended family and lifelong friends who will carry her memory forward.
Graveside services will be held at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens in Carlisle, PA and will be announced upon completion. All who knew and loved Lisa are welcome to attend and celebrate her beautiful life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of your choice — a tribute to Lisa’s giving, generous heart.
Rest gently, Lisa.
You are forever loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
