Lawrence E. "Ed" Tanger, 85, of Boiling Springs, died Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at his home.
Born in Boiling Springs on January 12, 1938, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Esther (Thorton) Tanger and the husband of 62 years to Shirley (Wolf) Tanger.
Ed worked as a mechanic at Tangers Garage on Forge Road and retired working for Turners Hydraulics. He was also involved with the South Middleton Township Fire Company, serving as Fire Chief for over 14 years and was involved with the Fire Police.
Ed was a John Deere fanatic and loved his John Deere tractor. Whether he was mowing his grass or giving the neighborhood kids a ride, he loved being on his tractor. He also shared his toy trucks with the neighborhood kids and was very helpful with his neighbors.
Ed enjoyed traveling to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee for vacation and liked antique fire equipment. He also loved being outdoors and going for drives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter: Kathy Witmer; his brother: Bill Tanger; his sisters: Vonnie McGuire, her husband, Harry, Bonnie Tanger, Kay Enneking; his grandchildren: Nicole Witmer, Stephany Leedy, Thomas Witmer, III; two great grandchildren as well as his nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service 11:30 am Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Hoffman Funeral & Crematory Ltd., 2020 W. Trindle Rd., Carlisle, where the family will greet guests after 10:30 am. Interment will follow the service in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ed's name may be made to Shriners Childrens Hospital, 3551 N. Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA 19140.
