Joel G. Johnson

Joel Greiling Johnson, 54, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully at his home on December 28, 2025, surrounded by love.

Born on September 17, 1971, in Royal Oak, Michigan, Joel was raised in Rochester Hills, Michigan. He graduated from Rochester High School and went on to earn a degree in Environmental Engineering from Cornell University, followed by a master’s degree from Michigan Technological University. Joel was also proud to be an Eagle Scout, a reflection of his lifelong respect for nature, integrity, and service.

Joel was deeply devoted to his family, his work, and his community. He found joy in simple, meaningful moments, especially time spent at his family's cottage on the Bruce Peninsula in Canada, where he loved swimming, hiking, and relaxing. He also shared a special bond with his dogs and could be found walking them daily through his neighborhood, a familiar and comforting presence to many.

Above all else, Joel was known for his gentle spirit, quiet generosity, and sense of humor. Joel was a devoted husband and a loving, steady father who led his family with patience and a quiet strength that made everyone feel safe and supported. He led with kindness, listened more than he spoke, and showed his love through thoughtful actions rather than words. His calm presence and dry wit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.

Joel is survived by his loving wife, Keirstn Johnson; his children, Avery, Sam, and Elise Johnson; his father, Robert Johnson; his siblings, Matthew Johnson and Tricia VanTichelt (Rob); and his close cousins, Dunrie Greiling and Christiana Seay. He was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Johnson.

A celebration of Joel’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2026 at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, where the family will greet guests after 10:30 a.m. prior to the service.
