Ida Mae Eppley

Ida Mae Eppley, of Carlisle, died peacefully at home Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Born February 26, 1930, she was the daughter of the late David and Essie (Shughart) Shearer. Ida was preceded in death by her husband, William S. Eppley.

A graduate of Boiling Springs High School, class of 1948, Ida retired from Dickinson College in 1995 where she was a college textbook buyer for 28 years. She and her late husband, Bill, were owners of the Eppley’s Drug Store for many years prior.

Ida is survived by her daughter: Elizabeth (Dean) Nardis, of Belleville, her son: David (Christine) Eppley, of Texas; her grandchildren: Shamberlin (James) Young, of Arizona, Jamie (Tyler) Hansen, of Utah, Madison (Dan) Herbas, of Utah, Stetler (Rachael) Eppley, of Texas, Dea (Toby) Nardis, of Pennsylvania, Jana Nardis, of Pennsylvania; her 15 great grandchildren; her step-grandchildren: Glenn (Debbie) Stull, of South Carolina, Terri (Paul) Lashley, of New Jersey, Kirsta (Mylo) Esquilon, of Illinois, William (Donna) Thorpe, of Pennsylvania as well as her eight step-grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ida was preceded in death by two step-grandsons: Ronald Thorpe and Christopher Thorpe; two stepdaughters: Audrey Thorpe and Roxann Stull and three sisters: Norma Smyers, Freda Bender and Dorothy Neal.

She was also a lifelong member of Carlisle United Methodist Church.

She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family and she loved spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening and painting, and was loyal to her friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service 1:00 p.m. Friday, October 2, 2026 at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, where the family will greet guests after 12 Noon prior to the service. Interment will follow in Paddletown Cemetery, Etters.
