Helen Nace

February 15, 1940 — November 13, 2025

Helen Stouffer Nace, 85, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2025. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and a familiar, smiling face to generations of Carlisle residents, she dedicated her life to her family and community.

Born on February 15, 1940, Helen was a cornerstone of her community, best known for her decades of service to local schools. For 34 years, she was a lunch proctor at Crestview Elementary School, where she was cherished by students and staff alike. Starting in 1977, many parents who later ate lunch with their own children at the school remembered Mrs. Nace from their own student days.

In addition to her work at Crestview, Helen served for 25 years as the dedicated crossing guard for Bellaire Elementary School at Waggoner's Gap Road and D Street, retiring in 2002. Rain or shine, she was a bright spot for commuters and families, ensuring the safety of countless children with a friendly smile and a nice word for everyone.

Earlier in her life, Helen also worked as a crystal inspector at Reeves Hoffman.

She was the loving wife of the late Chester "Chet" Nace, with whom she shared nearly 60 years of marriage. Together, they enjoyed good music and good food. Helen was a wonderful mother and a caring asset to the community.

She is survived by her two children, Sherry Mancuso (Troy Junkins) of Carlisle and Blanda Nace (Sabrina Thomas) of York; her grandchildren, Wesley Adams and Becky Mancuso; and her grandchildren, Michael and Austin Mancuso.

Helen’s kindness and unwavering dedication to the children of Carlisle will be remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be private and at the discretion of the family.
