Gilbert J. Zimmerman

Apr 14, 1942 — Aug 30, 2026

Gilbert James Zimmerman passed away at home on Sunday, August 30, 2026, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Gilbert Zimmerman passed away peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and people whose lives he touched.

Originally from Brooklyn, New York, Gil was a resident of Carlisle, PA for the past twenty-one years, previously living in Eden, North Carolina.

Gil proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps as a Military Police Officer. His time in the Marine Corps was an important time in his life, carrying the values of loyalty, strength, honor and protecting others. Following his military service, he worked as a telegraph printer, beginning another chapter of a life defined by hard work, dedication, and service.

Gil was a man who cared deeply about the people and animals around him. He was naturally protective of those he loved and was always willing to lend a helping hand when someone needed it. He had a great sense of humor, often bringing laughter and personality to those around him.

He has many interests and enjoyed the simple things that made life enjoyable. Gil loved history, country music, and Penn State football. He also enjoyed going to the shooting range. He enjoyed watching SpongeBob, proving that even with all his interests in history and the military, he could still enjoy a good laugh. Gil also appreciated the finer things in life. He loved good food and fine dining, enjoying a great meal and the experience that came with it. He loved the beach and enjoyed visiting New York City, making memories along the way.

Gil will be remembered for his strength, his protective nature, his willingness to help others, his sense of humor, and the unique personality that made him who he was. Though he is no longer with us, the memories he created and the love he gave will remain with those who knew him.

Rest peacefully, Gil. You will be deeply missed and forever loved.
