Gary Wallace Smith

Gary W. Smith, of Carlisle, died peacefully at home on July 11th, 2025.

Born in Baltimore on October 28th, 1929, he was the son of the late Victoria G. and E. Reginald Smith of Catonsville, MD. He graduated from Catonsville High School in 1948, from the University of Maryland in 1951, and from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1954.

A retired lawyer, he was a member of Allison United Methodist Church (now Carlisle United Methodist Church) since 2000.

In 1960 he married the former Doris Leisher, who died in 1998. In 2001 he married the former Adora Rabiger Sholley, who survives him.

He is survived by two daughters, Lynn Cobb of Mechanicsburg, and Dianne Whitaker of Rockville, MD. He is also survived by four grandchildren: Katherine Green and Elizabeth Cobb of Annapolis, MD, and Connor Whitaker and Victoria Whitaker of Rockville, MD.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 19th, 2025, at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Rd, Carlisle, PA 17013, from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held immediately following the visitation. Burial will be private at the Good Shepherd Cemetery, Ellicott City, MD.
