It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Garvin B. Rumberger Jr. on August 26, 2026. Born on October 30, 1950, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, Garvin lived a life filled with love, adventure, and dedication to his family and community. He departed this world peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family and friends, after an unexpected illness.
Garvin was the son of Garvin B. Rumberger and Needa (Zeigler) Rumberger. He was predeceased by his parents, as well as his sister, Terry, and his brother, Mike.
Garvin is survived by his wife, Jill; his brother, Rod Rumberger, and his sister-in-law, Joby. Garvin was a beloved uncle to nine nieces and nephews, as well as a great-uncle to 18 great nieces and nephews, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
A smile, a handshake, an offer to help, a good story that always seems to carry a lesson. Throughout his life, Garvin was known for his warm smile, wise spirit, and the ability to bring laughter and fun to those around him.
As a volunteer of over 20 years to Cumberland Valley Habitat for Humanity, Garvin will always be remembered for his stalwart leadership. During the entirety of his involvement at CVHFH, he participated in the construction of nearly two dozen new affordable homes for low to moderate income families. All the while, his no-nonsense brand of leadership provided invaluable guidance to the organization.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor Garvin and the incredible impact he had on those around him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Garvin's memory to the: Cumberland Valley Habitat for Humanity, 39 Heisers Lane, Carlisle, PA 17015.
