Elaine Leist

It is with great sadness that the family of Elaine A. Leist, 79, announce her passing on August 21, 2024 at UPMC Carlisle surrounded by her loved ones. 

Born in New Orleans, LA, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Iris (Litil) Broddick and the wife of Ray A. Leist for 41 years. 

Elaine dedicated her life to the civil service for over 43 years, retiring as the Deputy Garrison Commander of Carlisle Barracks in 2017. She helped make military families lives better serving in Texas, Georgia, Japan, Germany and Pennsylvania. Following her retirement, Elaine continued her life of service as a dedicated and active member of the Carlisle Kiwanis. 

Elaine was an avid gardener, both flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed cooking and playing with her Miniature Dachshund, Rugby. Physical fitness was a huge part of her life and she enjoyed kayaking and walking. Elaine was kind, loving, and caring. Her family was the center of her world; She was a proud and doting Mother and Grandmother. 

Elaine’s loving spirit is carried on by her husband, Ray, and her children: John Masaracchia, his wife, Kristie, Charles Masaracchia, his wife, Kimberly and Steven Leist, and his wife, Jessica. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren: Payden, Paxton, Paris, US Army Capt. Corey, his wife, Margaret Grace, Matthew and Alice Anne-Marie Masaracchia.

A memorial service is being planned for the future.
