Dwayne A. Gleason, age 77, passed away on October 2, 2026, in Hershey, Pennsylvania.
He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; an avid gardener, a friend to the birds, a gifted card player, and the keystone of his family. His unwavering devotion to those he loved and his knowledge of nearly everything blessed his family and friends.
Born on August 24, 1949, in Gowanda New York, to the late Stanley and Arlene Gleason, Dwayne grew up with a strong sense of responsibility and integrity while working on his family’s dairy farm, running cross country, pole vaulting, and wrestling for Pine Valley Central High School. He attended Fredonia University just long enough to meet his wife, Marianne, before joining the U.S. Navy.
Throughout his life, he held many job titles, including submarine sonar technician, television technician, corporate manager, entrepreneur, warehouse laborer, and his favorite title: retired. No matter the job, Dwayne was known for his hard work, creative problem-solving, and his ability to always get the job done.
Outside of work, Dwayne could often be found playing cards at his kids’ houses, reading on his swing, feeding the birds, taking a walk, or helping his beloved wife in any way he could. Dwayne deeply valued being a good human, and he deeply loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dwayne’s spirit and dry wit will live on through his beautiful family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Marianne Gleason; his children, Benjamin Gleason and his wife Starr of Newport, PA, Kimberly Gleason of Fairfax, VA, and Lauren Swigart and her husband Don of Carlisle, PA; his seven cherished grandchildren; and his six adoring great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Arlene Gleason, as well as his siblings, Steven Gleason, Karen Gleason, and James Gleason.
Rather than a traditional funeral service, a Celebration of Life will be held to honor Dwayne’s memory. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to make a memorial contribution to St. Joseph’s Indian School at https://www.stjo.org/, a charity most near and dear to Dwayne’s heart.
