Dorothy A. Orris

December 15, 1943 — May 2, 2026

Dorothy Annette Orris, also loving known as “Dottie”, “Aunt Dot”, “Nanny”, of Carlisle, died Friday, May 2, 2026, at UPMC, Carlisle.

Born Dec. 15, 1943 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late Robert Ellis and Mary Laughman Williams. She was the widow of Clarence Leroy “Chink” Orris, who passed away Nov. 5, 2014.

A 1961 graduate of Big Spring High School; Dottie also retired from the Big Spring School District as the Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent. While she was able, her most memorable experiences occurred while spending her summers at any beach she could be on with either friends or her large family that she cherished. For the past 14 years she treasured time spent with her only granddaughter making crafts and memories together.

Dottie and Chink were members of The Meeting House, Carlisle. Dottie was a long-time member of the Greater Harrisburg Sweet Adelines, and the “Just for Fun” group of past and present members of Sweet Adelines who recently performed for Dottie’s fellow residents at Carlisle Skilled Nursing and Rehab while there for rehab. Dottie was a Past Madam President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #1299, Carlisle. She was known by many as a consultant for Henn Workshops; and, her beautiful flower arrangements Designs by DottieO.

Survivors include her son, Todd D. Sheller, Leesburg, VA, her daughter, Jennifer A. Yeater (Douglas), Carlisle, step-sons: Keith A. Orris (Suzanne), Haverford, PA, and Gary L. Orris (Brenda), Newville, grandchildren: Andrew (Dominique), Will (Katelin), and Destini, 1 great-granddaughter, her sister: Rosemary Eurich (Jim), Carlisle and her brother: Donn Williams (Bonnie) of South Carolina, her sisters-in-law: Joyce Williams and Jean Williams.

Besides her parents and husband, Dottie was preceded in death by her four brothers: Harry, Ed, Richard, and Jon.

Dottie’s family would like to extend their utmost appreciation for the compassionate care and services provided by the staff at U.S. Renal Care, and UPMC, Carlisle.

Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service on Thursday, May 7, 2026 at 11:30am at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Rd. Carlisle, PA 17013. A visitation will be held from 11:00am until the time of the service. Burial will immediately follow to Westminster Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Dottie's name may be made to The Meeting House, Carlisle; or, a charity of your choosing.
