Doris J. Erwin

Doris “Jean” Erwin of Mechanicsburg, PA passed away peacefully at the age of 100 surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her husband Norman L. Erwin in 1980 and her life partner of 38 years, John. She was also predeceased by a son, William Callen.

Jean is survived by her son Brent R. Erwin (Mona) of Lindenhurst, IL, Sue A. Erwin of Boiling Springs, PA, Three grandchildren, Jen Parker (Jesse), Joshua Gramley (Monique) and Amir Mustafa. She is also survived by a loving great grandson Matt and a great granddaughter due in October.

Jean graduated early at age 17 from high school in Nekoosa, WI and boarded a train for Washington D.C. to begin a job with the FBI. Following that she worked in the blueprint section of the development office for the B 29 Project during World War II. She met and married Norm and built her life with him in Grayslake, IL. In 1973, the civilian portion of the Great Lakes Navy Base was moved to the naval base in Mechanicsburg, PA where Jean and Norm relocated. Jean eventually became an employee of the Naval Base and retired from there as the worldwide Inventory Manager for a submarine weapons system.

Jean and John traveled extensively all over the world and made many memories together during their adventures. Jean loved her family fiercely- she was a mama bear before the term was coined and protected her family at all costs. She also loved seeing jet trails in the sky, hot air balloons and her collection of angels. She will be deeply missed by all who love her so deeply.

A Celebration of Life will be held August 18, 2026, from 6-8 PM at Hoffman Funeral Home in Carlisle, PA.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Central PA in gratitude for their exceptional and loving end of life care.

Burial will take place in Avon Cemetery which is on land donated by the Edwards/Erwin family in Grayslake, IL, at a later date.
