Doris Jane (Strohmeier) Collins, 93, of Carlisle, died March 22, 2024. She was the wife of Ashby F. Collins of Cumberland Crossings, and the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Fredericka (Weber) Strohmeier of Jeffersontown, Kentucky.
Born January 26, 1931, in Louisville, Kentucky, Mrs. Collins was a graduate of Jeffersontown High School and Nazareth College (now Spalding University), Magna Cum Laude, with a degree in chemistry and mathematics. She initially worked as a research chemist for a Louisville dental products company and years later acquired her teaching credentials. Depending upon where she lived at the time, Mrs. Collins taught various sciences and mathematics in high schools and to home-bound students.
Mrs. Collins was married for almost 69 years to Col. Ashby F. Collins, U.S. Army, retired. Throughout his 30 year decorated career and living in over a dozen locations, her priority was always establishing an inviting home and activities for her daughters. Additionally, she supported her husband’s career and was a consummate hostess, a leader in numerous military spouse activities, the Girl Scouts, and various charities, especially those related to her church at the time. Currently, Mrs. Collins was a member of the Carlisle united Methodist church and formerly Allison United Methodist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Collins, in addition to her husband, are her daughters, Cheryl Collins Reinecker (David) of York Springs and Beverly Collins Langford (James) of Virginia, and their children and grandchildren: Andrew Reinecker (Heidi), Jonathan Reinecker (Taylor), Lauren Gregory (Matt), Stephen Langford (Mackenzie), Kate, Collin, Beau, and Ellie Reinecker, and Harper Gregory. Her two sisters and three brothers predeceased her, with brother Philip Strohmeier (Linda) of Louisville, Kentucky surviving her in addition to many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 10am at Carlisle United Methodist Church, followed by a memorial service on Saturday, April 6th, 2024.
