Donald C. Ellis

Donald C. Ellis, 88, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, July 3, 2023, at UPMC Carlisle.

He was born January 20, 1935, in Chattanooga, TN to the late Robert and Claudia (Riddle) Ellis. Don was the widower of Dorothy M. (Rende) Ellis who passed away in 2016.

Don honorably served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the 82nd Airborne Division and he proudly completed over 75 jumps. He was employed by Bethlehem Steel for more than 30 years before his retirement. Donald enjoyed being outdoors. Some of his favorite things were boating and waterskiing at Raystown Lake, and spending time at his hunting camp with friends and family. Don was a trained martial artist who formerly competed in Judo. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #1299, VFW Post #477, the White Circle, and American Legion Post #674. Above all else, Don was a loving husband, father, brother, and grandfather.

Don is survived by two loving children, Debbie Byron (Rick Beers) of Ohio and Donald R. (Michelle) Ellis of Carlisle; three siblings, Gary Wilson, Randy Wilson, and Debi Wilson all of Ohio; four grandchildren, Houston and Rachel Ellis, Cydney Byron (Matt Evans) and Corey (Leeanne) Byron; three great-grandchildren, Ava Evans, Addison, and James Byron. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013. A private interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Rolling Green Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
