David M. Brownawell, 86, of Sherman Dale, passed away May 31, 2026, at the Penn State Health Hampden Hospital.
Born April 17, 1940, he was the son of the late William C. and Minnie M. (Sheriff) Brownawell.
David was employed for many years as a finish grinder at Frog & Switch Manufacturing before retiring. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles #1299 in Carlisle.
He enjoyed being outside working any chance that he could. He was not one to sit idle and was always finding something to tinker with in his garage. He loved spending time at the family cabin in Clinton County. Going to bear camp with his longtime friends was a favorite pastime that he always looked forward to. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and hunting. He had a special relationship with his granddaughters. Pap always took their shenanigans in stride and always with a smile on his face.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis Brownawell; children, Donna Neal and Douglas Brownawell (Erica); grandchildren, Alicia Neal and Kai Brownawell; one sister, Betty Rhoads. David is preceded in death by eight brothers, Sam, John, Paul, Charles, George, Earl, Robert and Jess; four sisters, Goldie, Mary, Mildred and Helen; and his son–in-law Gary Neal.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, June 12, 2026, at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Rd. with pastor Richard Reese officiating. There will be a viewing from 10:00 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will immediately follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
