Danny R. Watkins (74), a respected educator, coach, athletic director, outdoorsman, and devoted family man passed away Thursday, June 11, 2026, from Alzheimer’s disease. He passed away surrounded by the love of family and friends, leaving behind a footprint that will continue to influence students and student athletes in the counties of Bradford, Tioga and Cumberland.

Raised in Convington, PA, Danny developed a deep appreciation for family, hard work, and the outdoors that would remain with him throughout his life. He graduated from North Penn High School and Mansfield University before starting and finishing his professional career in the Towanda, PA School District.

Outside of his professional career, Danny was an avid outdoorsman whose greatest adventures were often found in the hills and forests of Bradford and Tioga Counties. He cherished time spent pursuing white tail deer and sharing traditions such as shooting 3D targets with his bow and camping at County Bridge and Ives Run with his family and friends.

Above all else, Danny was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His greatest pride was his family and he approached that role with the same dedication, humility, and love that characterized his life. He was a source of guidance, support, and encouragement for many. Danny will be remembered by his family and friends as a man who made a difference through his character.

Danny was the son of the late Raymond and Marian Watkins of Covington, PA. He is survived by his wife, Pauline (Bombaski) Watkins, of Carlisle, PA; his children, Adrianne Watkins (Adam Cottrill) of Aliquippa, PA and Kyle (Vanessa) Watkins, of Carlisle, PA; his sister, Gloria (Dave) Kurzejewski, of Mansfield, PA and his grandchildren, Sydney Cottrill, Jayce Cottrill-Watkins, Carter Watkins, Lia Watkins and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Danny’s life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, from 2-4 pm at the Blossburg Fire and Ambulance Company, 324 Main Street, Blossburg, Pa 16921.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to establish a scholarship fund in Danny’s memory for student athletes who have been affected by Alzheimer’s disease through a family member or close friend. This scholarship will honor his lifelong commitment to education, athletics, and the support of young people facing life’s challenges. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Towanda Area School District Education Foundation, 410 State Street, Towanda, PA 18848 (please write “Dan Watkins Memorial” on the check’s memo line) or they will be accepted during the celebration.
