Daniel Schungel

Daniel Farren Schungel, Jr., 69, of Newville, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025, after a long battle with cancer. Dan was surrounded by his wife and sisters at the time of his passing. Born on June 26, 1956, at Fort Benning, Georgia, Dan was the son of Daniel Farren Schungel, Sr. and Adeline Marie Schungel (Ward).

Daniel is survived by his wife, Kathleen McGuane Schungel and his son, Raymond Daniel Schungel.

Daniel is also survived by two sisters, Laura Schungel Yana (Charles) and Georgia Lou Hasse (Olaf). He was proceeded in death by his parents and by one sister, Constance Sue Delk and her spouse, Lucious Edmond Delk. He is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews from the Schungel, Murphy, and McGuane families.

Daniel received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Shippensburg University in 1984. He worked for over three decades for Geotechnical Services, now known as American Engineering Group, as both a Soils Lab Supervisor and initially as a Drilling Inspector.

Daniel served in the United States Army in an Infantry Brigade as an Airborne Infantry Paratrooper. During his service, he received numerous awards including the expert marksman and parachute badges. Daniel was a proud American and honored to serve his country as a United States Army veteran.

Daniel’s graveside Memorial Service will be held at Fort Indiantown Gap Memorial Cemetery at the convenience of the family in the Spring of 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV), PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 24250.
