With deep love and sorrow, the family of Christine M. Bailes announces her peaceful passing on September 8, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by family and friends.
Born on Christmas Day in 1937 in West Germany, Chris’s life was one of love, resilience, and service. In 1957, she married the love of her life, a U.S. soldier, and bravely journeyed to the United States to begin a new chapter. As a devoted military wife, mother, and grandmother, Chris exemplified strength, compassion, and unwavering dedication.
For over forty years, Chris worked at the Carlisle Country Club, where she became a beloved and respected figure among both colleagues and guests. Her kindness, work ethic, and humor left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Chris was a woman of deep faith and devotion—to her family, her friends, and her church. She found joy in tending her flowerbeds and feeding the many birds that graced her back porch. Her home was always a place of beauty, warmth, and laughter.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Lindsay Bailes, and her granddaughter, Stephanie Bailes. She is survived by her two sons, Donnie Bailes (Jeannette) of Middletown, PA, and Robert Bailes (Kristin) of Columbia, SC. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Jennie Williams (Charles), Jackson Bailes, Sara Bailes, Zach Bailes, and Jake Bailes.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, September 14, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Hoffman Funeral Home in Carlisle—all who knew her are welcome to attend. A celebration of her life will follow on Monday, September 15, at 10:30 AM at Dickinson Presbyterian Church in Carlisle. A private burial service for family and close friends will be held at Fort Indiantown Gap Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Chris’s memory to Dickinson Presbyterian Church.
Chris’s life was one of steadfast faith, joy, and profound love. Though she may no longer walk beside us, her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
