Charles F. Witter

Charles Witter, of Carlisle, passed away on Tuesday, December 10 at his home at the age of 87. Born March 25, 1937 in Monroe Township, Cumberland County, he was the son of the late James and Anna (Garman) Witter. He was the loving husband of the late Marie K. (Halter) Witter with whom he shared 44 years of marriage. 

 Charles worked on the family farm as a young boy. Following graduation from high school, Charles proudly served his country in the Army National Guard. Following his honorable discharge, Charles was employed as a construction worker for many years, including tenures with both Handwork, Inc. and Krall, Inc. After retiring from construction work, Charles returned to his work on the family farm. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending bluegrass concerts and his grandchildren’s sporting events.

Charles is survived by daughters Cheryl Barrick (husband Victor) with whom Charles resided in Carlisle, Tammy Sweger (husband Bill) of Aspers, and April Black (husband Timothy), of Shippensburg. He is also survived by a brother, Ray Witter, of Texas in addition to grandchildren Jeremy, Joshua, Nicole, Derek, Kayla, Kate, and Hanna along with nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Charles was preceded in death by a son, Charles Witter, and many brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 17 at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Rd., Carlisle. A viewing will be held the evening before from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens.
