Charles L. Shover Sr.

            Charles Leon Shover, Sr. passed away at the age of 95 years old on February 27, 2024, at Thornwald Home in Carlisle. He was born on September 15, 1928, in Carlisle to the late Maynard and Grace (Hippensteal) Shover of Carlisle.

          Charles worked as the head maintenance mechanic at the Carlisle Paper and Box Company for 25 years under the original owner and another 18 years under new management at the shop located on Spring Garden Street. He was also a lifelong member of The Letort United Methodist Church in Carlisle and worked on countless projects for his church over the years.

          A devoted husband and father he was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Virginia Shover (Swavely) two brothers, Leonard and Marlin Shover and two children, Charles Shover, Jr. and Cindy Clyde of Carlisle. Along with two granddaughters, Angie Crouse and Haily Willow.

          Charles is survived by a sister Beatrice Shearer of Carlisle and a sister in-law Patsy Shover of Carlisle. He is also survived by three daughters Susan and Raymond McWilliams of Minneola, FL., Sharon and Montie Yuda of Boiling Springs, Linda and Steve Crouse of Camp Hill and son J. Wesley Shover of Carlisle and daughter in law Elizabeth Shover of Carlisle.  In addition to 14 Grandchildren, 22 Greatgrandchildren, and 1 Great Great grandchild.

          Memorial service in his honor will be held at a later date. Memorials in honor may be made to: Letort United Methodist Church 1198 Claremont Road, Carlisle, PA 17015 or Homeland Hospice 2300 Vartan Road, Suite 270, Harrisburg, PA 17110
