Cecelia M. Polite

Cecelia Maureen Polite affectionately known as “Celie” passed away on January 28, 2026, in Carlisle, PA surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in New York City on February 3, 1956, and was the 6th daughter of Richard and Dorothy Polite. Cecelia earned two bachelor’s degrees in criminal justice and Sociology from Mercy College, Dobbs Ferry, NY. She also obtained a Certificate in Substance Abuse and Alcoholism and worked as a Drug Counselor, Social Worker, Corrections officer and a Child Care Worker just to name a few positions. Her favorite and most memorable position was when she worked as a Correctional Counselor at Rikers Island.

Her hobbies were singing gospel music and reading. While attending Greater Faith Church (Bronx, NY) she sang at Madison Square Garden and sang in 2 choirs while living in North Carolina. She took pride in remembering everyone’s birthday and sending Birthday Cards.

She is preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and Richard; Daughter, Shawntrique and Baby Sister, Michelle.

She leaves behind to Cherish her memories her children; Lisha, Sincerae, Levar and Daughter-in-law, Natalie; Her Grandchildren Chantysha, Lindel, Alyssa, Brianna, Amir, Killeus, Shawn and Taylor Rich; Great Grandchildren Michael, Jordan, Ezekiel, Amethyst and Sage, Sisters Suzanne, Katherine, Marie, Denise, Roberta and a slew of nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
