Calvin M. Deckert

September 10, 1985 — January 9, 2022

Calvin M. Deckert, 36, of Newville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at UPMC Carlisle.
He was born September 10, 1985, in Dauphin County to the late Russell K. and Linda K. (Fike) Deckert.
Calvin honorably served his country in the US Army Reserve. He saw one tour of duty in Iraq and remained in the active reserve until 2018. Calvin also served as a member of the Garrison Carida chapter of the 501st Legion. He loved working for IWI US for the last eight years. He was an avid collector of firearms of all types and spent many days at the range.
Calvin had a deep love for all things science fiction from Lord of the Rings to Star Trek. Calvin would regale his friends with his knowledge of obscure scifi stories. Calvin would attend scifi conventions with friends and would tell you the story of one of his most proud moments when he earned a saucy “Oh, my!” from one of his favored actors, George Takei.
Finally, Calvin was an avid automotive hunter. He didn’t wake up early and go to a tree stand, but while driving home on at least five separate occasions that can be recalled he, begrudgingly, helped to manage the local deer population.
Calvin is survived by his uncle, Fred Fike of Mechanicsburg and long-time partner Kaitlin Davis and her children Sean and Jacob. In addition to his mother and his father (who passed only two days before him), he was preceded in death by his grandparents, King R. and Norma J. (Brink) Deckert.
The only thing bigger than Calvin was his love, kindness and compassion.
Memorial services will be held for both Calvin and Russell at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022, at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 with Pastor Ed Rosenberry officiating.
