Buddy G. DeHart

Buddy DeHart, 89, of Carlisle PA, died peacefully on Friday, September 4, 2026.

Buddy was born in Danville, Virginia in 1937 to Mattie Woodford DeHart and Joseph Walter DeHart. After his mother passed away when he was 13, Buddy relocated to Carlisle, PA to live with his older brother Jack, while his father received ongoing treatment at the VA as a disabled First World War veteran. After high school, Buddy enlisted in the Marine Corps towards the end of the Korea War and specialized in aviation mechanics. Upon honorable discharge as a Sergeant, he continued to serve his country and worked for 38 years for the U.S. Army, beginning as a field technician and eventually retiring as Chief of the U.S. Army Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment Program. Upon retirement, he received the Commander’s Award for Civilian Service for exceptional leadership from the commander of the U.S. Missile Command.

Buddy was a lifelong fan of dirt track racing, once confronting Richard Petty for cutting off his favorite driver during a race. He was an avid listener of Waylon Jennings music, traveled extensively with his family, experienced and relished extended family life after marrying into Beverly’s large family, the Magee’s, helped his wife with the family antique business, always enjoyed visiting with his grandkids, and loved his pet dogs. Most of all, Buddy loved talking with and trying to help everyone he met.

Buddy was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Kirk (DeHart), his brother Jack DeHart and his grandchild, Megan Myers (DeHart). He is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Beverly DeHart (Magee), his daughter Beth Myers (DeHart) and son in law Dennis Myers, and his son Brad DeHart and daughter in law Nadia DeHart. He leaves behind 6 grandchildren Ashley (Caleb) Baechtle (Myers), Kelsey Myers, Henry DeHart, Vivian DeHart, Anika DeHart and Spencer DeHart along with 6 great grandchildren Remington, Wesson, Gunner, Kade, Kiah, and Kameron.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 11th, 2026, from 11:00am-11:30am, followed by a memorial service at 11:30am at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W Trindle Rd, Carlisle, PA 17013.
