Betty J. Suchocki

September 26, 1927 — September 8, 2023

Betty Jane Suchocki 95 of Carlisle on died on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Green Ridge Village. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years MSGT USAF (ret) William Suchocki and her son William Suchocki III.

She was born September 26, 1927, in Royalton, Pa. the only daughter of the late William and Fannie (Boughter) Flowers.

Betty met her husband William when he was stationed at Olmstead AFB. They married in June of 1950. She traveled the world with him from one Air Force Base to another, growing their family along the way. She enjoyed learning the cultures of the foreign countries while stationed there. The family lived on both Air Force Bases and in neighboring towns when her husband was on special assignments. The family traveled from Japan, Virginia, Massachusetts, Okinawa, New Jersey, Turkey, New York, and then returning to Massachusetts. When Bill retired from the Air Force in 1973, they move to Carlisle and lived here since then. There they joined St Paul Lutheran Church. They were both very active members of the church, teaching bible study, vacation bible school and raising funds for children to attend Camp Nawaka. She ministered to members of the congregation as a Stephens Minister.

Betty enjoyed the many benefits working as bookkeeper for Montgomery Wards, even working part time after she was officially retired. She also enjoyed having her granddaughter Caitrin work there as a cashier. After retiring from Montgomery Wards, she worked at the Carlisle Elks as their assistant manager, handling payroll, vendors, keeping licensees up to date and paying bills. She enjoyed her grandson Christopher working in the kitchen there and eating his food. Betty was very involved in all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren lives. She supported them in all their activities. She was an excellent seamstress, making clothes for barbie dolls, costumes for plays and cheerleading outfits for the entire squad when living in Turkey, as well as altering outfits and dress for her children, granddaughter and great granddaughter. She loved tending to her garden, which blossomed under her green thumb.

She is survived by her daughters Shirley S. (husband Stephen) Guider, Deborah J (husband Jeffrey) Kauffman and Daughter-in-law Patricia L (husband William) Suchocki, three grandchildren Caitrin (husband John) Shughart, Christopher Kauffman and Barbara (husband Robert) Smith and five great grandchildren Kayla, Alexa and Avery Shughart, Elizabeth and Elouise Smith.
