Betty A. Gutshall

Betty A. (Shearer) Gutshall 92, of Carlisle died on Monday, July 29, 2019 at Chapel Pointe in Carlisle, PA.
She was born November 14, 1926 in Shermans Dale (Pine Hill, Perry County, PA) to the late Parker L. and Mabel (Wilson) Shearer and was the widow of H. Richard Gutshall, who passed November 30, 2015.
Betty was a faithful and active member of the Carlisle First Church of God. She was a former founding and charter member of St. Matthews United Church of Christ in Carlisle Springs. She was also a member of the Cumberland County Farm Women’s Group. Betty enjoyed cooking, gardening, painting, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and spending time in the outdoors. Betty was very proud of her Perry County heritage where her father started out as the local Blacksmith. Her lifetime devotion was her loving husband and her entire family. She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth A. “Sprink” (husband Wally) Walters of Carlisle, and Julie G. (husband John) Gross of Boiling Springs; two sons, Richard L. “Jake” (wife Bonnie) Gutshall of Carlisle, Michael (wife Vicki) Gutshall of Arlington, VA; a brother, Paul (wife Pat) Shearer of Carlisle, nine grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Raymond Shearer, and two sisters, Miriam Paulus and Beatrice Galbraith.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 5, 2019 at 11:00 am in the Carlisle First Church of God, 705 Glendale St., Carlisle, PA with Rev. Michael Poe officiating. Interment will be in the Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle, PA. There will be a visitation at the church on Monday from 10:00 am until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be made to the Carlisle First Church of God.
