Berta L. Chronister

Berta L. Chronister, 86, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026.

Berta was born on June 16, 1939, to the late Robert Lee Gillaugh and Bertie Nailor Gillaugh.

Berta is survived by her daughters, Selicia Chronister and Dormi Chronister Ridgway, sons, Mike Chronister (Ann) and Peel Chronister (Susan), grandchildren, Bryson (Katherine), Matthew, Michael (Amanda), Keagan, and Connor, great grandchildren, Kiera, Declan, Delaney, Cade, and Aria, and many nieces and nephews. 

Berta is preceded in death by the love of her life and husband for 65 years, Norman Chronister, her parents, sisters, Francis Jumper, Isabel Lehman, Ann Heberlig, and Phoebe Giagnacova, her stepbrothers, Cletus Lehman and Galen Lehman.

In her lifetime Berta was defined by her deep and loving devotion to her husband, her family, and her friends. She was a proud and devoted mother to her four children, and a doting, loving grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She took on a nurturing role, guiding her children and family to the correct path. She was a kind and joyful friend to many. Berta was a woman of extraordinary strength. Her gift of laughter, humor, love and grace was a true blessing. She shared her joyful spirit and welcomed Jesus with open arms.  Her laughter and love were a force of nature, unyielding and unforgettable. She will be deeply missed by all whose paths she crossed during her lifetime.

Berta enjoyed spending time with her family most of all. She considered her three mini greyhounds, Armani, Blue and Nike part of her family. She enjoyed taking them on walks. She was a member of The Meeting House Church and Opossum Hill Church. 

A viewing will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2026, from 9:00 a.m.-10:00a.m., followed by a funeral service officiated by Chaplain Rey, at 10:00 a.m., at Hoffman Funeral & Cremation, 2020 W Trindle Rd, Carlisle, PA 17013. Burial will take place at Opossum Hill Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Berta's memory to Chapel Pointe, 770 South Hanover St, Carlisle, PA 17013.
