Barbara Jean Vanner, 78 of Carlisle, died Thursday, April 11, 2024 at her home surrounded by her family. Born on November 14, 1945 in St. Paul, MN, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Agnes (Lauer) Plaster.
Barbara graduated from Mahtomedi High School in 1963 in Mahtomedi, MN. She worked for the Ramsey County Welfare Dept. in MN, served in the Marine Corps as a congressional correspondent and Secretary to the Secretary of the Navy, and Employee Assistant Programmer for the Alcohol and Drug Dept at Carlisle Barracks.
Barbara was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. She received the good conduct medal and national defense medal. She was a life member of the Women Marines Association, lifetime member of the Marine Corp League 524, charter member of the Women Military Memorial, lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary to the VFW, Carlisle Vietnam Veterans Post #1, American Legion Post #101 and the Marine Corps League Devil Dogs.
Surviving is her son, Patrick Vanner, of Chantilly, VA., her daughter, Carrie Sheffield, her husband, Robert, of Knoxville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Corbin and Logan Vanner; her sisters, Patricia Ulick, her husband, Dennis of CA., Sandra Plaster of MN., and Betty Martin.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Thomas N. Vanner and a brother, William Plaster.
Her funeral service will be held 3:30 pm Monday, April 22, 2024 at Hoffman Funeral and Cremation, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, where her viewing will be held from 2:00-3:30 pm.
Barbara’s burial will be held at 1:30 pm Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle, VA.
