Barbara E. Germain

Barbara Germain passed away on September 30th, 2023.

She was born to Francis and Beatrice Metcalfe in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada in 1932.

She met her husband, Garry Germain, when they were both graduate students studying social work at the University of Manitoba. They married in 1957 and later moved to New York City in 1960. After having two sons, they moved their family to Montclair NJ in 1971. While she was also a therapist in private practice, Barbara’s main focus in social work was in education, where she evaluated children for a number of organizations until she joined the Clark Township public school system and worked there for 15 years. Barbara and Garry enjoyed their retirement with their two Jack Russell Terriers. When they weren’t walking their dogs, they took frequent international vacations to such places as Italy, Russia, India and China. In 2011, they moved to Carlisle PA to be closer to their son Chris. Barbara was an avid reader who always kept up to date on the latest news on healthy living. A lover of animals, she was a a big supporter of charities that promoted their humane treatment and conservation.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Garry, her sister Marian, and her brother Frank. Barbara is survived by her eldest son Paul Germain, his wife Fiona, their son Alex and their daughter Sabrina of Melrose MA, as well as her younger son Chris Germain. and his wife Jen, of Carlisle PA.

Barbara always had a keen interest in people, which is why she will be especially remembered for her kindness, wit, and humor that she shared alike with her closest friends and newest acquaintances.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
