Arbutus I. Barr, 91, of Carlisle, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, August 23, 2021.
She was born December 27, 1929, in Starford, PA to the late Irvin N. and Stella (Deabenderfer) Barr.
Arbutus was a 1949 graduate of Indiana High School, Indiana, PA. After graduation she attended Nyack Missionary Training Institute in Nyack, NY. Arbutus had a long rewarding career serving as a missionary. She was a home missionary for 32 years in the Ozarks of Arkansas before moving to the Chicago area to work with the Laotian Intercultural Ministries for 18 years. From the Chicago area she moved to Akron, OH before her eventual move to Carlisle, PA where she retired. Arbutus was a member of the Neshannock Alliance Church, a Christian and Missionary Alliance church in West Middlesex, PA.
She is survived by two siblings, Georgene (husband Richard) McKenzie of Cumberland, MD and Karl (wife Rita) Barr of Indiana, PA and numerous nieces and nephews including her niece Lori Stafford who helped care for her. In addition to her parents, Arbutus was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Thomas and Eunice Penrod and her co-worker, Letitia J. Waite.
Services and interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Arbutus to Chapel Pointe at Carlisle, 770 South Hanover Street Carlisle, PA 17013.
