Alvana Brown

Alvana Brown, 88, of Carlisle, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 19, 2022 at UPMC Harrisburg.

She was born May 17, 1934 in Florida to the late James and Mary (Burns) Brooks. Alvana was the widow of Irvin Allan Brown.

Alvana was a member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling and having cookouts with her family. Alvana was a very friendly, punctual lady who lived her mantra of loving everyone each day of her life. She retired from PPG after over 25 years of employment. Alvana’s greatest joy in life was her family. She always cherished the time she could spend with all of them.

Alvana is survived by two loving children, Norma “Cookie” Reeves of Carlisle and Jay (wife Sonya) Browne of Carlisle; seven grandchildren, Philip Devenshire Jr., Yolanda “Sugar” Devenshire, Eric (wife Aqueelah) Clarke, Jenel (husband Willie) Laney, Jamica, Jovanna, and Jenna Browne; eleven great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one brother, Anderson (wife Josephine) Brooks of Biglerville; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, George Leroy Devenshire and Philip Leon Devenshire; six siblings, Alex Brooks, Alzrio McDonald, Jacob Brooks, Lizzie Ross, Daskie Williams, and Beresa Mayo.

A homegoing service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013. Burial will follow in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday at the funeral home.
