Wilma Darlene Farrenholz (Cottrell), 79

April 28, 1943 - September 2, 2022

Darlene was our mom, nana, grand-nana, and friend, who always made time for her family and friends. Many great meals were enjoyed at her table, as her lasagna and cheesecake are legendary. An animal lover, she had a soft spot for all things feathered or furry. She enjoyed games, crosswords and crafts, as well as painting, bird watching, crocheting and gardening. Mom encouraged us to use our imaginations and explore the world with wonder. She taught us to enjoy books and music, travel and nature. Intelligent, witty, and kind, she could always be counted on for sound advice, a shared laugh, or a hug.

She served her community by volunteering and working at the York County ARC, and was involved with many charitable organizations, such as New Hope Ministries and the York County SPCA. She had a gift for helping others, and always gave from the heart. Mom was blessed with many friends over the years, whom she valued and prayed for. She was excellent at remembering birthdays and occasions, and her cards and calls always made us feel special. Every visit with Mom left us feeling loved, and even her granddog will miss them.

There is so much about Mom I admired: her strength, patience, compassion, sense of humor, wisdom. My mom was my first and best friend, and nothing will be the same without her. But by sharing our stories and memories of her, we will keep Mom with us always. Whenever I see a beautiful sunset, a colorful garden, or a cuddly basset hound, I will think of her. I want to thank all our family, and Mom's friends, who have loved and prayed for her over the years. I hope your stories and memories of Mom will keep her with you, as well.

A Celebration of Life for Wilma will be held from 12:00PM-3:00PM on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Perkins Restaurant, 7 Erford Road, Lemoyne, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, St. Jude's Children's Hospital, or to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
