William Wayne DeMoss, 87, of Carlisle, passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023, at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born April 23, 1936, in Harrisburg to the late William and Clara (Williams) DeMoss.
Wayne was an Alumnus of both John Harris High School and Penn State University. He honorably served his country in the US Marine Corps. Wayne was a good man who was always faithful to his parents, his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and his friends. He was a civil engineer with a concentration in water resource management. He coordinated the local, state, interstate, and federal recovery from Hurricane Agnes in 1972, and proposed changes to prevent future flooding. He created and authored THE PENNSYLANIA COMPREHENSIVE STATE WATER PLAN, which guided our state's water resource programs and management through 2020. That was a pinnacle, professional achievement for him and earned him accolades and great respect from the State's leaders of the time. Wayne was also an avid golfer and sports car and racing enthusiast. He loved traveling, exploring the world, meeting people, and learning their culture. Wayne also enjoyed music, architecture, and all great art works. He volunteered with Women in Crisis, Project Share, the Cumberland County Historical Society, and Friends of Opossum Lake.
Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Sherri DeMoss of Carlisle; one son, David DeMoss of DuBois; two daughters, Casey Waller and Colleen DeMoss both of Carlisle; five grandsons, Gerald DeMoss, Nick DeMoss, Jack Waller, Sam Waller and Mason Morrow; and one granddaughter, Sarah Hager.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the start of the memorial service at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17013. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Wayne to Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Linglestown Road Harrisburg, PA 17110.
