William Frederick Martson

William Frederick Martson, age 89, of Carlisle, PA and Port Charlotte, FL, passed away on Monday, January 25, 2016 at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle.
He was born on May 10, 1926 in Steelton to the late Harry F. and Mary Carpenter Martson.
William attended Drew University, Princeton University, Dickinson College and graduated from Dickinson School of Law, Class of 1949. He was admitted to the PA Supreme Court in 1949 and to the Cumberland County Bar Association on December 13, 1949 and was President in 1975. He was admitted to the PA Bar Association on May 21, 1951. Bill was an associate with Judge Robert L. Jacobs from 1949 to1956 and was in solo practice from 1956 to 1970 when he formed the partnership of Martson & Snelbaker from 1970 to 1976. He was a founding shareholder of the Martson Law Offices from 1976 to 2016. He was Assistant District Attorney of Cumberland County from 1952 to 1956. Bill was Carlisle Borough Solicitor from 1960 to 1986 and was Solicitor for the Carlisle Hospital from 1971 to 1996. He was a long time member of the PA Defense Institute and a Fellow of the International Society of Barristers from 1966 until his death. He was a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and inducted into the Trial Lawyers Hall of Fame in 1988. Bill was past President and past Solicitor of the PA Racing Commission. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy as an Ensign. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan and a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He was a member of the Carlisle Country Club since 1954 where he enjoyed playing golf. He was active in the Carlisle Exchange Club, past President of the Carlisle YMCA, a member of the St. John's Lodge, #260, F&AM. Captain Bill was past Commodore in 2000 of the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club where he and his First Mate, Jeanne, enjoyed boating. Bill and Jeanne christened their boats, "CAN-B" after the birth order of their grandsons.
Bill is survived by his wife of 70 years, Jeanne Snyder Martson of Carlisle; two sons, William F. "Rick" Martson, Jr., Esq. of Molalla, OR and Stephen C. (and wife Wendy) Martson, Esq. of Carlisle; four grandchildren, William Creigh (and wife Shannon) Martson, Esq. of Shermans Dale, Alexander F. (and wife Joanna) Martson of Portland, OR, Nathan B. (and wife Ellie) Martson of Biggs, CA, and Bradford W. Martson of OR; and seven great-grandchildren, Alaysia, Avery, Jackson, McKenna Jeanne, Tucker, Hana and Wyatt. His family affectionately called him "Ope".
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Bernice Martson and two brothers, H. Richard Martson and Donald H. Martson.
The family of William F. Martson would like to express their deep appreciation to their "family" at Chapel Pointe for the loving care they gave to Bill for the past seventeen months.
Celebration of Life services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 5, 2016 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Steve Motter officiating. Private interment will be at Westminster Cemetery. There will be a visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Carlisle Family YMCA, 311 South West Street, Carlisle, PA 17013.
