Wayne W. Rutz, age 86, of Carlisle, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born August 11, 1930 in Carlisle to the late Edward and Mary E. (Wilson) Rutz.
Wayne was a proud graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1949. In recent years, he proudly served as Class Treasurer for the "49ers" alumni group and looked forward to their luncheon gatherings. He furthered his education by attending Susquehanna University and graduated with the Class of 1958. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the Air Force and he retired after 30 years as an Auditor/Investigator for the Health & Human Services for the federal government. He was a very active member, serving in many capacities, at the former Allison United Methodist Church for at least 40 years. He currently had been attending The Meeting House-Carlisle Campus. Wayne was an accomplished water color artist. He was a member of the Cumberland County Historical Society, where he volunteered helping people with their genealogy. While working on the Rutz family genealogy, Wayne coincidently discovered a distant descendant of the family tree, Gernot and Evi Rutz of Hamburg, Germany. The two couples became close friends and spent many years traveling throughout Europe and the United States. Both Wayne and Janet were loyal patrons of the Allenberry Playhouse, Boiling Springs, where they enjoyed many of their plays and musicals. Family meant the most to Wayne: Sunday gatherings, watching NASCAR, birthday parties and any events his two grandsons would be involved with. He particularly enjoyed watching the boys' racing and hockey games.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janet (Gordon) Rutz of Carlisle; a son, Gary G. (and wife Sue Gydesen-Rutz) Rutz of Mechanicsburg; former daughter-in-law, Tammy W. Rutz of Mechanicsburg; two grandsons, Ryan Edward Rutz and Eric Gordon Rutz and his fiancé Cassie Lee Price; three step-grandchildren, Ashley and Carl Martin, Courtney Beadore and Jason Beadore; and two step-great-grandchildren, Kadence and Ryleigh Martin.
